Apparently the downstream effect of all the upsurge in sewing and crafting, is that the American Girl Company has named their new "Girl" -- Chrissa. She's based on a real girl which I think is a very clever marketing maneuver in today's economy. She is bullied (and cyber bullied!) and uses her Gift of Craft to overcome her issues. I want a little cheerleader icon here for 'you go you crafty girl, you go!!"
Anyhoo, one of the things she does is sew! You can even get a little battery operated sewing machine and sewing related 'stuff'. I think this is a great comment on the future of sewing! Of course she also has a 'pet llama' so I hope that's for creating yarn knitting, but that may be too much to hope for.
Here's the little 'set' you can buy for just 80 bucks (backordered until May!). But the sewing machine works!!! LOL. Looks like knitting too now that I take a closer peek.
In a day or so I'll have a comparison up of the Pleasant Company
American Girl Doll, the Target brand 18 inch doll and the Michael's
brand 18 inch doll. Even (gasp dare I say it??) a podcast. I saw
Sister Diane in the most recent issue of CraftStylish "Quick Stuff to Sew" issue, and The Crafty Chica (Kathy Cano-Murillo) in CraftStylish's "Holiday
Decorating Ideas", and thought heeeeeeey. I know them! If the can put
out a piece in a magazine Ican drag my little self to the computer and
mic. No promises, this week has been interesting (to say the least) what
with Sewingmamas.com going down for a few days and a trip to the mecca
of fabric stores in San Francisco, Britex.
I got five yards of Melton wool at 69.89 a yard -- I'm still a little overwhelmed. But it's for the only thing he ever asked me to make, a matrix type jacket. I had to snap a pic of him fondling all the black wools, but he turned fast and caught me, gave me the stink eye and I had to promise I wouldn't upload it anywhere. Just porn for me. Let's say he's not totally supportive of my sewing habit/obsession.
We're taking down Christmas today, now that the 'mouse' is out of our family van.
I got the dead mouse out out the car (after Mr. Big tore apart the car when we arrived home) and it took me about three hours and I bruised my right knuckles but it's gone!!! I tried to use all sewing implements to try to get it out of where it had holed up with apparently some fabric and Reece's peanut butter cup packages.
No pictures.
You're welcome.
See you soon!
