FAQ

What is a "Podcast"?

A podcast is just like a radio show. But instead of listening to it on the radio, you listen via the internet. The FCC does not have any jurisdiction over the airwaves, as there are no airwaves. It's all recorded and listened to on the internet.

Who can create a podcast?
Anyone. About anything. It costs very little to produce, but a lot of passion and patience because it can be frustrating learning all the new 'stuff' and not getting paid. So the podcasters out here rely on your feedback on their blogs as well as iTunes.

You do not need an iPod, just a computer with speakers.

Each episode is available directly on my blog. Press the picture with the arrow on it and the program will start on your computer right away:

You can go here to directly download any episode you'd like.

You can use the direct link, listed by episode, or you can right click that link to save to your computer to listen to later. Once it's on you computer, you can listen whenever you'd like. You can even move it to a CD or on to an mp3 player.

If you use iTunes, and have a Mac, click here Material Mama Podcast and each episode will be downloaded automatically to your iTunes folder.

If you have a PC or can't find my podcasts on iTunes, do this. In iTunes on your computer, click on Advanced menu. Select "Subscribe to Podcast", and paste this into the dialog box: sewingmama.libsyn.com/rss

What time are these podcasts on?
Any time, any day you want to listen to them. You can listen on your schedule, and you'll never miss a show.

So how do I get more podcasts?
You can go here to directly download any episode you'd like.

How can I contact you?

I also have a MySpace account.
How often do you do a new podcast?
There are a few factors that push me to feel the creative urge to make a new podcast. First is you, the listener. I try to think of what you'd like to hear about and how to package that. I don't know what you want unless you give me feedback (see email and voicemail links above). The more feedback I get, the more excited I get to create a new podcast.

Another thing is I'm a full time mom. As soon as I start talking my kids are on me. You know how it is, the phone rings and your once placid children turn into monkeys flying off the walls? It's like that.

It's usually 1-2 weeks between shows. It takes a few hours to write what I want to chat about, a few hours to record and a few hours to 'clean it up' so it's fit for your ears (the best I can make it that is) format it for iTunes so you can find it, then finally upload it.

Are you available for interviews?
Yep! I have Skype and I'm happy to chat on your radio show or podcast. send me an email materialmama at gmail dot com.

If you have a show, please feel free to use my promo on your show. Please let me know if you use it! I'm also happy to do bumps for other crafting/sewing/parenting podcasts. It's great how we all support each other. Material Mama Promo

Meg, I finally took the time to check out your podcast and I have to say that you have made these last evenings so enjoyable! I feel like I have a friend chatting with me here in my home, AND she's talking about things that are interesting to me. Anyway, just wanted to say how much I enjoy the podcast. I hope you are able to continue.

Kelli aka Mama2kjm at Sewingmamas

I have been listening to your podcasts the last few days and just wanted to let you know how much I've been enjoying them. I have recently been spending time at Physical therapy with my foot stuck in various contraptions so I listen. I am glad to have a new sewing sister...your relaxed style makes me feel I am just hanging out with one of my friends to chat.
I am a stay at home Mom of a girl 8 and sons 6 and 22 months. I live in SC and love to sew. I smock a good bit and heirloom sewing is my passion. I am a Martha Pullen Liscened Viking Instructor though I rarely teach due to time constraints.
I was thrilled with your clips of old sewing video and Sewing machine song. I'd love to have the sewing machine song on my ipod (any tips on how I might download that?)
Anyway...Just wanted to say thanks for the podcasts and just picture me with my foot in the whirlpool at the hospital listening and wishing at was at the sewing machine.
