Here in California, we are in a severe budget crisis. I'm sure it's the same all over. I got a pink slip last year, and may get one this year. Luckily I work for a wonderful school district and they were able to find the funds to keep me working. Recently I purchased a whole season of a TV show at Best Buy. While I was happy to get it, boy are those expensive! Ebay won't allow teacher or teaching texts. Amazon can take forever.
Then I remembered my olde stand by, Swap a DVD and Paperback swap.
Paperback swap has hardback as well as paperback books. They have children's books and teaching guides and classroom management guides.
It's very simple. You sign up (free), you can do one of two things. You can list your own books up for trade, or 'buy' credits to get more books. Credits are about 1.00 USD each.
You create a list of books you have, and books you want. Through the magic of computers you're matched up wtih someone who wants what you have, and matched up with someone who has what you want.
You then get a list of where to send your books (or DVD's). They even create a shipping label with the shipping cost noted on it. It's really easy as it sounds. You pay ONLY for shipping TO the one who wants your stuff.
Then, magically books or DVD's come to you! Click below. This is not a scam, just a great way to get books and DVD's you can use in your classroom or at home.
Thanks CJ! Great idea! I'll forward your idea to them. I'd love to trade SRA kits!

What if? What if all the Teachers around the state/country signed up for PBS Box-O-Books and just swapped the 50-500 books that they needed at the end of every semester/year? That way they could swap out their 500 "As the Red Fern Grows" for 500 "Homer's Odyssey". SAVE A TON w/ Box-O-Books by shipping boxes vs. shipping individual books. http://www.paperbackswap.com/box_o_books/what_is_bob.php
-you should contact Richard Pickering the founder to see if they could do something similar to Box-O-Books but just for teachers... or to somehow market it nationwide and filter by teachers. Guarantee he would.
