I'm Ms Tippy, or “Nutmeg”. I've been teaching in the classroom since 1989. I have taught First Grade, Third and Fifth Grades in a wonderful school district in Northern California. For a time I also taught Science and Computers. I am an artist as well, and incorporate these passions into my curriculum at school. I have participated in and created many blogs and websites, some of which are listed on the bottom here.
There is such a strong blog presence in the crafting world; when I created Classroom Hacks in 2008 I was really surprised how hard it was to find teacher blogs. I dug a bit deeper and found that to just get resources and ideas I had to wade through a lot of pop ups, fake sites, costly sites all for very little return. There is some GREAT stuff and resources out there! I didn't have time to waste and I'm guessing you don't either.
This blog is for inspiration and not a political or ranting education blog (there are plenty of those!) Classroom Hacks exists for you to find fun, creative ways to enhance your classroom. I get no money or 'kickbacks' for doing this, just the good feeling of helping other teachers.
After looking at awesome sites like ParentHacks and Whip Up, I decided to create a non-political, teacher, admin, parent friendly site. A few times a week a new idea is posted. I get these ideas from my own experiences, co-workers, and teachers (public, private, homeschool and unschool!) from all over the world are sharing ideas! People just like you!
Submit your own hack here and you could be a published author!
Here are two other sites I created and administrate:
- Material Mama a podcast and blog about fashion and craft sewing for yourself and your family
- CookiePants attached parenting advocacy
Thanks so much for your wonderful emails and feedback!
You can find me on Twitter @ClassroomHacks I realize many school districts have Twitter blocked, so you should be able to find any information here that I share there as well. You can always direct message me via Twitter with your ideas too!
Cheers!
So glad you are back! We love this site and are spreading it around our district in Texas!
